Jumping into January

finished product

We got right back into the swing of things at MOPS in January.  Our first meeting for 2011 included the MOPS International curriculum, Momology, to remind us that mothering is an art and science and to continue in our pursuit of well-rounded mothering.

Mrs. Nina Goodrum of Bella Blooms came to our second meeting of the month and helped us figure out the art and science of flower arranging.  She gave some great tips; everything from placement and structure to perserving and picking out the best flowers for an arrangement.

It was nice to play with spring time items like flowers, since we all we coming out of hibernation due to the snow and ice storm that hit our area.

Here are some pictures of our time together.

Nina, you're such a silly girl. 😉

Our October

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!  Now that you’re stuffed with turkey and the trimmings, are you thinking about how you’re going to work off all those calories?  Just keep reading…

Does this picture look a little off for any reason?

Well, if you’re wondering why no one’s face is in the picture it is because this was taken during our Jazzercise session we had with instructor, Katie.  Would you want to be documented huffing and puffing away glowing all the while?  Neither did we.

Katie was our guest speaker the first Wednesday in October.  We had a blast dancing, exercising and sweating together.  Katie gave us just a glimpse of what a true Jazzercise session was like but worked us good nonetheless. 🙂  In addition to the workout, Katie shared how over the past year+ she has been getting healthy and the positive effects it has had not only on her but also on her family.

Scheduled for the third Wednesday in October was our craft: glass etching.  Our craft committee brought in vases and plates to decorate with letters and decorative stencils.  The original idea came Martha Stewart Living, but unfortunately I don’t have a picture of our finished products.  So, here’s the link to the craft:  Martha Stewart Living etched glass craft.

Super September

The month of September was full of supers:  super savings, super crafting, and super shopping.

Mrs. Darci Combs was the guest speaker for our meeting on the 1st and explain to us how to become super savers.  She is a coupon guru and shared her tips and know-how to get products significantly less or even free.  A few of her pointers include:

-get an AJC Sunday paper, or two, or three, or four

-visit iheartpublix.com, especially on Mondays

-don’t clip coupons, just file them according to the insert name

-know the stores you shop at; who are their competitors and what coupon combos do they accept?

-check out Youtube “extreme couponing”

The superness continued with our craft project on the 15th.  We have some super crafters in the group.  Here’s a picture of one of the cookie pan chalkboards one of our mama’s made.  Too cute!

This idea came from: http://www.inspiremecrafts.com/inspireme_crafts/2008/01/gotta-make-it-9.html

We rounded out September with some super shopping on the 18th.  Since we had some extra change in our purse from learning to how to use those coupons earlier in the month, we headed up to the Dawsonville Premium Outlets.  Christmas shopping was the objective for some, others did some window shopping, and others just bought themselves a little something.  Goodies all around I say.

Side story:  On our way back home, we were talking and enjoying our adult conversation when all of a sudden we realized that the road ahead of us was closed.  The bridge was getting a fresh coat of paint.  Neither the detour signs nor the navigation system were really helpful, but after a couple of carefully selected turns, we were back on track heading home.  Add built in GPS to a mother’s set of senses. 😉

Back in the swing of things

Summer was fun, but now that MOPS is back in session the fall is going to be funner (yes, I know funner isn’t really a word ;))!  Our first meeting for the 2010-2011 year greeted some new faces and welcomed back some familiar ones.  There was food, fellowship, a devotion and discussion from MOPS International from Psalm 139, and a name tag craft to round out the two hours.  If you weren’t there, no worries, just come next time.  Hope to see you there!
